Colonial Parkway Killer

During the last couple of weeks or so a sheer obsession with an unidentified serial killer, believed to be responsible for multiple killings along the Colonial Parkway, has consumed me.

I have read every article I can find on the internet and I have watched every video I could find that referenced any or all of these Colonial Parkway murders.

I'll go ahead and tell you now, the best coverage of this story I have found to date is
a video by Dark Minds titled, "Dark Minds The Colonial Parkway Murders S2E7".  If you have any interest at all in this case, I recommend you watch this video for an in depth look at these crimes. In addition to the killings referenced by most other writers, the makers of this video included one more crime that may be related to the Colonial Parkway Murders.

It was October 12, 1986 when the bodies of Cathleen Thomas and Rebecca Ann Dowski were discovered in Thomas' car.  Rebecca's body was in the back seat.  She had been strangled with a thin nylon rope.  While she was still alive, her throat had been cut.  Cathy's body was located in the hatch area of her Honda Civic.  Cathy suffered a more brutal killing, appearing to have given one hell of a fight to her killer.  She received a defensive stab wound to the hand, she had also been strangled with a thin nylon rope and her throat had been cut almost to the point of decapitation.

The Honda containing the bodies had been pushed over the embankment from the pull off where the ladies had been parked.  The vehicle became hung up in the brush not quite making its way into York River.  It had also been doused with diesel fuel in a botched attempt to ignite the car.

Cathy had a clump of hair between her fingers.  There was a small piece of rope missed by the killer which was embedded in the back of Cathy's neck beneath her collar.  Latent prints and full prints were also left behind.

In September, 1987 David Kobling, 20 and Robin Edwards, 14 were stopped at a rest area along the James River.  They had been lead into the woods and both had been shot and left lying in the mud near James River.  There bodies would be located three (3) days later.

On April 10, 1988 Richard Keith Call age 20 Cassandra Lee Hailey age 18
Disappeared from the York River Overlook, just 3 miles from location where Thomas and Dowski were found.  Their bodies were never found.

On September 5, 1989, Dan Lauer 21 Annamaria Phelps 18 begin their move to Virginia Beach.  they're going to live with Dan's brother and his girlfriend.  The next morning Anna's mom called the police reporting she had not heard from Anna.  Later that day their car was found on the opposite side of the highway of their direction.  They were heading East yet, the car was on the West side of the highway at the New Kent County Rest Area.

Six (6) weeks later, hunters are walking in the woods about three (3) miles from the rest area.  The bodies were covered with a woolen blanket that had belonged to Dan.  There were signs that the actual murder location was down a logging road where blood spatter and pieces of Anna's fingernails were found.  The cause of death could not be determined, however it was determined that Anna had been stabbed.

Fast forward seven (7) years. . . .

Then in May of 1996 Julie Williams and Lollie Winans went on a camping trip near Skyline Lodge.  Their bodies were discovered in that area, above Hawksbill Creek which flows into South Fork Shenendoah River in Elkton, Virginia, on June 1, 1996.  They were both bound and their throats had been slashed.

There is an obvious pattern here, one that makes me doubt the killer actually took an eight (8) year hiatus from his crime spree.  I'm seeing things differently in that I believe this killer is working more than one area.

With three out of the four "Colonial Parkway Killings", the crimes occurred in the Fall of the year.  One of those and the addition of the killings of Julie and Lollie, occurred in the Spring.

In February of 2017, the bodies of Liberty German and Abigail Williams were discovered on the bank of Deer Creek at Monon High Bridge Trail in Delphi, Indiana.  While the cause of death has not yet been released rumors point at similarities in the way Libby and Abby died.

Could the Colonial Parkway killer be a travelling killer with a purpose for his seasonal visits and  a purpose for the eight (8) year void?
