The Killing Method - Libby & Abby

In the case of Liberty German and Abigail Williams, I am going to bring up a difficult topic.  This is one that I believe should open up a new discussion and new ideas.  At least, I hope it does.

Let's begin by talking briefly about the rumor of the condition of the bodies.

We've heard through the grapevine the girls' faces were beaten quite badly and they were raped, with Libby being more brutally raped than Abby.  We've heard there was a spear (stick) in Abby's abdomen. We've heard Libby's fingers were cut off.  Some believe her fingers were cut off to hide DNA.  We've heard their throats were slit with Libby being almost decapitated.

I don't want this post to become something gruesome and ugly.  I don't want it to become something that may hurt family members or anyone else who reads Evil Unsolved.  I just hope to share something that may help someone remember something they've seen.

With all of these gruesome details and the suspicions around Daniel Nations, many believe someone did this crime with a hatchet.

Others believe this crime was done by a serial killer / serial rapist with a garrote.

Then there are others who believe the killer was a hunter from the area.  What would a hunter use?
The picture above is a stainless steel wire saw.  Hunters use these for cutting down trees that are in their way.

Unfortunately, I have to ask you to imagine something awfully hurtful right now.  Imagine a killer standing behind or on his knees behind Libby with this wire saw around her neck.  Imagine Libby reaching up and grasping, grabbing, pulling with her fingers on that wire saw, trying to release the pressure from her neck.  Imagine him, pulling tighter as he sees her struggling to fight this off of her.  What's going to happen to her fingers?

As we think about how this crime flowed and whether or not the two girls were killed where they were found or taken somewhere and later dumped, we need to consider the killing method.  It matters.  It tells about the struggle, the commotion in the woods or in the barn. It's another chapter that has to be read before the story can ever come to an end.

Edit:  Carrie (Libby's mother) confirmed during an interview that Libby's fingers had not been cut off.  Yet another rumor debunked.
