Father Refused Help For Dying Son

41 year old Curtis Gilbert Collman is an unregistered sex offender who was convicted in 2006 of sexual misconduct with a minor.  Sentenced to 1 1/2 years with 1 year suspended, he served only 6 months.  Upon his release he failed to register as a sex offender in Jackson County, Indiana.

His 8 year old son and his namesake, little Curtis Collman III was a bright eyed, red haired, second grader who according to his grandmother was a fun-loving, active boy who loved life.  He liked riding his bike and scooter and he loved Minecraft.  He was a Minecraft tutorial person who could tell you anything about the video game.

According to Wave 3, on Thursday morning, August 2, 2018, little Curtis III was scrounging for food in the home where his father had custody of him.  He saw what he thought was cereal on a plate and ate it for breakfast.

At 10:00 am Collman realized his son was not acting normally.  His son was talking to his brother who was not there, possibly suffering from meth-induced psychosis or hallucinations.

It was then that Collman realized his son had not eaten cereal, he had eaten meth, carelessly left in a child's reach.  Little Curtis III consumed 18,000 nanograms of methamphetamine - 180 times the lethal amount.

At 10:00 a.m. Collman noticed his son was acting abnormally.  He stated the boy was talking to his brother who was not there, (possibly suffering from meth-induced psychosis or hallucinations).

He called a friend over to help but when she arrived she suggested to Collman that he immediately take his son to the hospital.

Out of fear of being arrested and going back to prison, he refused.  He allegedly ripped the cell phone from her hands and allegedly threatened her at gunpoint saying he would kill her, himself and the child.

Collman then took the child to his mother's home and upon arriving the child began turning blue and became unresponsive.  He attempted to stop his own parents from calling 911 but the grandfather was finally able to call authorities.  The boy was taken to Schneck Medical Center, where he later died of methamphetamine overdose.

Curtis Collman II is facing 40 years in prison on the charges of:

Failure to Register as a Sex Offender
Neglecting the Care of a Dependent
Pointing a Firearm
Possession of Meth
Intimidation
Failure to Register as a Sex Offender
A Theft

The trial of Curtis Collman is currently scheduled for December 4, 2018.
